New Job Details + Corp Benefits

Well what an interesting week it has been at my new job, and since you are all dying to know how it is... I will now tell you.

It's actually very exciting - I get to meet a lot of people, utilise a massive new amount of resources, and drink lots! Heh. Yeah they supply drinks free and a fantastic set of kitchen appliances and utensels to use... biscuits, chips, timtams, fresh fruit, nuts, newspapers, plasma tv's... ahh the list goes on! They really want every staff member to never leave, be well fed, and be well versed in the current media.

So far in the past 5 days of my first time working at Lend Lease (situated in The Bond building in Sydney) I haven't really done a lot... until this week. I did a little bit of excel maintenance, some Hyperion reports and started on a reasonable MS Access project. Finally something to keep me busy at work! I was getting pretty bored there last week reading company policies and codes of conduct.

The travel is a bit annoying, takes about 2 hours door to door in the morning, and the same in the afternoon. This means I leave home at 7am and get home at 7pm... but it's not too bad I guess. It could be worse!

Everyone seems really friendly and I was introduced to pretty much the whole of IT (about 60 people) and I forget alllll of their names... haha.. ok well most of them anyways.

The other day, the CIO came up to me and goes "Hey Nicholas, are you settling in well?". I thought that was really awesome... the big boss knows my name and is friendly enough to come randomly to talk to ME! hah!

On the weekend we had the work christmas party at Luna Park - Casino De Luna (or something). It was pretty good! I have photos, so I should probably get back into the mood (and install FTP software) of uploading a whole bunch of photos from the past few months. I know I've been very lazy with them! The day began with me wandering around Bondi shops as usual (while Rex was at work)... and I found some good bargains! I snapped up a few cds at this nice music shop... quite cheap but also a very good selection. I'm thinking of giving them away for presents so I won't list the titles... well maybe later :P I wouldn't mind keeping some for myself too, hehe :D.

Managed to be a little late to the Christmas party on the saturday night, with Rex taking ages too get ready... but eh! She looked pretty good in this dressed we picked up for $19 on Friday (khor... what a bargain!). Oh yes we went out for food on Friday night too, so muchos money was spent last weekend :(. The dress was actually bought in Harbourside, which is known for over-priced touristy things, but gosh.. what a bargain :P

(For dinner on friday night I took Rex to this awesome pizza place in Pyrmont... mmmm!)

Ahh yes back to Saturday. Snagged a free parking spot on the street in Milson's Point, but it was a bit of a walk... poor Rex! She had decent-looking-but-oh-so-painful cocktail shoes on.. hmm. I had not too painful formal shoes on (which I am now wearing to work, since they are the best looking black shoes I have...). But we made it there and back (after much cursing! heh ok not really). Snapped up a few night shots without the flash using my new 50mm lens... and some of them turned out pretty good I must say! The focus is quite hard to achieve... mainly because the apeture is so damn low, which means it's great for low light, but things at different distances will not be in focus. Ahhh well. The trade off...

Talking about photos, I also took some nice photos at Dover Heights the other day and I have stitched some together to make a panorama... I think I will upload it later. It's a bit big, but dang... it looks very sweet indeed!

So yes back to the Christmas Party... it was a casino theme, which worked quite well with a lot of people in art deco styled clothing and lighting... and lots of dark sunglasses! I didn't bet anything (the tables were too damn busy and I never would've won anyways) but it was great to enjoy the food and the live entertainment. I think over 1000 people were there, which makes it pretty big in my books! The food was a bit average (probably too much meat but dang stirfried squid is tasty) but everything else was good.

We also went for a ride on the ferris wheel (which wasn't included as part of the company-paying-for-everything-deal, unfortunately) but I did get some good photos on top of there, too.

Sunday was very lazy with me getting up past 2pm... whoops! OK so we got home a little late in the night... but it was lots of fun at least.

We did manage to go to the beach however... at Maroubra... but didn't see anything amiss. Then I wander into work on Monday, read the newspapers over lunch (they have The Australian, The SMH, The Tele, the financial review... and I think that's about it) to find all this crap going on at Cronulla and Maroubs. Disgusting I tell ya! Oh well. At least my car didn't get smashed :S

Ahh wells. Enough rambling! That will do for now.
