Well there goes a whole lot of time which I really should blog about... so I will right now (while chilling to 'Round Midnight as performed by the Jazz Crusaders live at the Lighthouse '66... oooh yeah....).
Well last weekend was pretty good I must say, with Chinese New Year (or the very apt title of the Spring Festival) being celebrated generally on Saturday... but other times too I imagine. I had Lachlan over to check out the gp2x (which I think he is interested in ... when the software is a bit more mature!). Ah yes had a bbq lunch mmm tasty tasty and flanked it with watermelon on a hot day. Ah yes. Good stuff. Also had my bro n bec over to visit, although they seemed to work on bec's car for half the day and then I left, so not much bonding there. Oh well. I promise Duke3D will be on my gp2x next time, how about that Andrew?
Ryan was organising some "quiet" night in at his place watching movies (are his things ever 'quiet' ???) so I couldn't really go to that because I had promised I would see cm... for CNY of course. That was okay, there's time later to watch movies and chill playing pool at Ryan's place another time... maybe...
So I headed off to the City, or more correctly Matto... then went off to the City for dinner + other stuff. Managed to score a parking spot right near Hyde Park which I thought was a bit of a find... considering my bad luck finding street parking in the city... So yes $3 for the rest of the night was a bit of a steal I reckon.
Wandered off to meet up with the rest of the Ma's for dinner to find Aunt Florence and Simon had come down from Brisbane... so that was kinda cool. Of course, everyone else was having dinner in Chinatown at the time, so it was pretty much impossible to get a table at a restaurant, but while we were waiting Elissa popped up out of nowhere. So that was pretty good, had a chat and intro'ed cm to her. Now she has met my entire maths class (well, what was left of the maths class in year 12 anyways). So yes after giving up our search for food, we just settled for the upstairs foodcourt, which isn't too bad I reckon. I'd say market city is better, but only just. Still, good to get together. Oh yeah, Aunt Florence also gave me a red pocket! Whoa... that was quite unexpected considering I have only met her once before... still that's good though. A bit awkward at first but I think it's a really good thing in the end in my mind. The Ma's also gave me one, which is even better! But yes... first year for everything I guess...
I also got a massive pack of some '99' brand vegie wafer stick things... which I think I will take to work to devour. They're not too bad for vego food I reckon, but I have a rather large packet of them now!!!
After dinner Rex and I wandered around the city a bit, had a go at the carnie games. Not quite sure why they were in chinatown, except living off the whole CNY thing. One had a poor baby stuck in the front in some kind of fenced cot thingy, which was quite a strange sight I reckon. Annnyways, I managed to win myself a water pistol (tehe) ... it's rather powerful for a carnie toy, and rex got herself a sticky stretchy frog on a leash. Righto. Well that was a fun few dollars (didn't really choose anything challenging, just the floating ducks... SORRY I'm bored Ben!) - (Oh yes, unlike Ben I don't spend $90 on this kinda thing ahah...).
Then we wandered back to the car so Rex could put on her silly shoes, grabbed some easy way on the way (aka comfortable little station) and then headed downtown for Tank.... Which we have been wanting to go to for a long time now. I must say it almost lived up to expectations. Almost. The place is pretty kewl, the lighting is good, the speakers are good, and the toilets are... interesting (Daniel said they look like hot water systems...) - yes we went with Daniel and Eugenia - but I don't think they really enjoyed themselves at all... oh well. Sneaky Sound System were much better than last time we went (at the Chinese Laundry) but what made the night really suck was Rex's purchse of a $17 cocktail... ooops! They really should have prices on their drinks menu... it was an apple flavoured martini and although it looked cool with it's grape and piece of apple on the side and took AGES to make... it really wasn't worth more than dinner!!! (And almost as much as the cover charge of $20...). Oh well. I think that made the night a bit sour but otherwise I really enjoyed it. We had to leave a bit early so Rex's dad wouldn't hunt me down with a shotgun (hah just kidding, he's pretty cool but I don't wanna lose any points now). Ahh well. I managed to finally spend all of the 10c coins I had collected in my big tin on parking, so now I guess I will have to start using money out of my wallet! Eh... street parking is still the best I reckon.
To end the discussion on the weekend, Sunday was spent bumming around at Rex's place, which was alright I reckon. I helped her with her resume and did lots of sleeping, followed by a quick trip out to Port Botany. There's a bit of a road leading out into the middle of the port, so we ventured out there and took a few snaps (I took a panorama of 16 shots but I don't think it will work out because the water moves too quickly...). Anyways, I might chuck some of those up later on, nothing terribly interesting but you can never have too many photos :D I managed to get home on Sunday night before midnight which was good, considering my track record with trying to get home after spending Sunday at Rex's place... well lets say it just makes me all very tired for work on Monday if I've only got 6 hours of sleep...
Other news... hmm I'm totally obsessed by the Fender Rhodes piano at the moment as used by Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea amoung others. The sound is so unique and warm, I just have to buy one! Problem is they haven't been made for a number of years (since the 80's) so finding one in good condition is difficult (particularly because they were designed to be carted around and used on stage...). Anyways... If I ever do find one... Well... to use Terry's word... "true love". bwaha!
So yes not a bad week of work thus far, but it has been a challenge finding WORK to do... but I still manage to find something most of the time. Today it was thursday so shoppppping time for me! I went to Allan's music to grab up some sheet music and check out if they have anything for sale that is used... which they don't. The rather unapproachable "I don't want to be here" women seemed to be quite offended that I was after 2nd hand equipment and told me to look at the Trading Post. Bah! Don't I know that already. So anyways I got some sheet music books on Herbie Hancock and Dave Brubeck... so they should be good fun I reckon. As you can see I'm trying to get back into the music again... so why not get some new toys to spark interest? ;)
Otherwise I haven't actually tried the sheets yet, I guess I may have a chance in a few minutes after I submit this... and start planning my weekend. Phew! I'm feeling tired already just thinking about what I'm going to do this weekend...
