Too Many Birthdays

Right here we go for my fortnightly update. This weekend we celebrated Rex's 22nd birthday... although her real birthday is actually tomorrow!
Photos are here. As you can see we went to Teppan-yaki... in the city. However despite the service being absolutely terrible, the food was OK and I think we had fun regardless. AFter our meal we were shunted to the table out the front of the restaurant, where they promptly forgot that we had a cake, then refused to be able to find the cake, then when they finally did find the cake, decided to overcharge us. Of course we complained and paid the correct figure... but sheesh! I thought restaurants were supposed to make the experience for the customer NICE... okay well maybe not in this case. Be warned.

Now before all this happened I went out with my parents for my dad's birthday (talk about a weekend of birthdays...). We went to this cafe in Kurrajong, which isn't exactly a feat in itself however I had something I have never had before... soft shell crab. Ohhhhh my gosh it was so damned tasty, and you could eat the entire thing. It was lightly battered in tempura and placed atop a bed of noodles. Very nice. The best thing of all, apart from the taste and the texture of course, is the laziness factor. You can eat every last bit of meat from the crab with no effort! None of those crab crunching things. Tasty.

Anyways back to CM's birthday. After dinner we went out for K, which turned out to be better service than dinner - which was a welcome relief. We say all kinds of horrible songs badly and everyone seemed to have fun. Although Eugenia and Daniel went home, we were still left with CM and myself, Ivan (sp?) and Chammy, Steph and Fletch, and Jen. It was quite good I have to say, mainly because we pretty much only sung english songs (hmm so much for hiding my inability to sing by singing in other languages...).

We managed to get up before midday somehow despite going to sleep after 2... (hey okay I need a lot of sleep). There was a nice note downstairs from cm's mum "Boys and Girls: Good Afternoon, buns in the rice cooker". Good to see her sense of humour! Althought it wasn't afternoon by that stage, it was pretty close so her estimate wasn't far off...

The rest of Sunday was pretty much a rest day except I ran off (hehe oops) after staying over at CM's place to visit my bro just before he closed up and went home. I checked out his brand (Well okay, not HIS technically but it's owned by Domayne) new photo printing lab. It looks very pricey but the photos are of much higher quality than the older machine. Very good! It's good to see him playing around with big toys at work finally - there are only so many cameras you can play with I think.

I then managed to invite myself over to my brother's place for dinner, and helped make some tomatoey sauce with pasta for dinner. It was pretty nice but I think I made it too sweet... oh well. Bec was pretty tired after her baby shower (Which I hear went off OK). Everyone demands to know the gender but Bec continues to refuse to find out.... good work Bec!

That was pretty much my weekend. As for the previous one which I have missed... It consisted of Truc's 22nd birthday party at Thai Land in Newtown (which was really really good I must say - even though we had to sit on the floor...). There are photos but they are on Truc's site... I suppose I could just swipe them some day :D. Also stayed over at CM's place after picking her up from watching Dusty at Star City... which I also hear was really good. Now I feel like going to it... but I dunno. I think I would enjoy it regardless, even though I don't really know any of her songs.

On Sunday I went shopping with Rex at Hurstville in search of pants and shirts... but I couldn't find anything my size so I settled for 3 pairs of socks instead. They are so much easier to buy!!

Otherwise the other highlight from last week was bringing an Oporto chicken home, and my word they are massive. I brought it home on Friday night and we are still eating it... amazing value for $12. And yes, I'm not usually a fan of product placement.

No real complaints about trains lately, except that they're pretty much always late. And smelly. And kinda uncomfortable for my back... ehh don't get me started...

Anyways here is the bottom line... Happy Birthday Nat (see I didn't forget), Rexie, and of course my Dad!

And off to bed for me.
